Can I fit a metal bumper or winch to my 4x4?

Before you start: Check the complete assembly before buying. A recovery accessory, replacement bumper and projecting bull bar raise different questions; an off-road label does not settle road-use approval.

The bull-bar warning is explicit
MoRTH's 7 December 2017 circular directs action against unauthorised crash guards and bull bars, citing Section 52 and risks to pedestrians and occupants. A seller's description is not an exemption from that direction.
Assess the installation
Ask for model-specific mounting instructions and evidence addressing airbags, sensors, front-axle loading and pedestrian safety. Confirm that plates and required lights remain visible. A winch capacity figure does not establish that its mounting assembly is appropriate for your vehicle.
Separate approval from recovery training
Send the proposed assembly to your RTO and insurer. Ask what is permitted on public roads and which documents they require. Separately, learn the equipment's limits from its manufacturer and a qualified trainer. Fitting a winch does not make every nearby bracket a recovery point.
