Can I fit a lift kit to my 4x4 in India?

Before you start: Plan the lift around your vehicle, your use and the approval it needs. A kit being sold as a two-inch upgrade does not establish permission to use it on public roads.

Start with the approved specification
Section 52 restricts alterations that put registration particulars at variance with the manufacturer's original specification. It does not provide a two-inch exemption. Ask the registering authority to assess the proposed change before installation; a workshop invoice is not that assessment.
Ask for a complete installation plan
Give the installer your exact variant, tyre size and expected load. Ask about steering, suspension travel, brake hoses, alignment and driver-assistance systems. Get the installation instructions and inspection schedule. A lift should solve a clear need in your driving, with the whole vehicle considered.
Keep the paperwork with the build
Send the kit specification to your RTO and insurer before paying. Ask what approval, inspection or policy endorsement is required. IRDAI describes endorsements as the way insurers record policy changes. Insurance acceptance does not replace vehicle approval or establish that an installation is mechanically sound.
